¿Salsero? No…otros tango es una pausa

So, last evening I went to Viruta´s for a … Salsa lesson! In my prior blog, I had mused about whether it would help my tango, or whether I should switch. Conclusion: To stick with tango except maybe for the occassional taste. The basic step is very much like a triaspe step in Milonga-style tango. There is less of a connection, though, and in fact the embrace gets broken on purpose. It is more a playful kind of thing, though, much like Milonga.
Off to the side I saw a pair of the house dancers that I had previously seen, I think, in the tango show there. They were wearing ´normal´clothing and practicing a complex combination of figures in flagrant violation of many posture rules* to the salsa music, but it was hypnotic. It heartened me to see them do something that I have done, as well, in basic classes doing basic combinations of figures: They broke the embrace, looked at each other a moment, thought, made gestures with the head as if to say “?” …¨o.k.”… and then tried it again.
Today´s session was great with the teacher, more zen like stuff about connection and clean molinetas in open and close embrace .. (finally! to my right) and attempts at reaching good connection in plain ochos. I do not waste any time in these classes, which rebuild my faulty foundation, which I seem to continually tear down with sloppy posture. This pm … more group, I imagine, and a club.
I had a kind of aha! moment which actually caused me to mist over as to why the tango draws me.
*which they can do, but which I cannot, or should not at this point. Quod licit jovi, non licit bovi. (What is ok for Jupitor to do is not ok for a cow)
Edit: actually, I started to well up and had to excuse myself from the room and ask pardon.
