I learned a shocking (yet simple) perspective on connection yesterday during a private lesson.

I was trying to (physically) connect my embrace at my partner's sternum. By touching at the chest, I disconnected everything else below our bodies.

My teacher suggested I try connecting at the solar plexus instead and, behold, my connection was recharged!

A 2-second suggest made all the difference!

you're right - you do go to meet yourself when you go dancing (or learn to become a better dancer). Although you do get a partner.

Ganchoes, like volcadas, should be something like "tango baco bits". Seasoning rather than the main course.

Hello Noseintheair,

I think that a leader has to use ganchos wisely.
I come to dislike like them due to certain dancers who use 3 of them by song during a tanda ... with a bad lead ...
At some point, I have told a dancer during a dance: "I think ganchos are the most overrated and overused figure in tango" just after he lead one.
I know, I know it was pretty abrupt, and even worse he was not one of the repeat offenders I spoke above.

This video I was allowed to watch in Argentina!
They showed the moves very well, but they are not of interest to the social tango I dance here.

Saludos!
Just to let you know that this video doesn't play in Argentina. :( I am out of the "geographical range" for this video.

Maybe that's because we don't do them! Well of course stage dancers do. But social dancers, never.

Anyway, I find them very aggressive and ubrupt.

Tango Magic

The music beckons
Weaves its spell on two dancers
Eyes meet and we smile

Hands touch, igniting
as palms explore our bodies
Our arms enfolding

Heart beats against heart
We sway, limbs move rhythmically
I lead, you follow

Our souls are open
Briefly shared emotions
Remembered passion

Slowly dance as one
The dance of passion, love, death
Our sorrow Our joys

We become the dance
Our identities are gone
Lost to the music

The whole world retreats
Like lovers we both dissolve
Only we exist

Having studied music, I end up studying how dancers try to explain musical concepts.
